The Perpetrator of the Terrorist Attack Against General Igor Kirilov Sentenced to Life Imprisonment
Robert Safaryan has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, Batukhan Tochiyev to 22 years, and Ramazan Padiyev to 18 years of imprisonment, according to Svetlana Petrenko, official spokesperson for the Investigative Committee of Russia.
"The investigation and the court established that these individuals carried out a terrorist attack in Moscow on December 17, 2024, resulting in the deaths of Lieutenant General Igor Kirilov, the head of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of the Russian Armed Forces, and his assistant Ilya Polikarpov. Additionally, property damage was inflicted on the owners of 27 apartments and 13 vehicles," the statement said.
According to the Investigative Committee, the crime was “carefully and extensively prepared in Ukraine.”
“In the autumn of 2024, the organizers planned to transport components of an improvised explosive device from Poland to Russia, which were concealed as household items, and ensured their delivery to Safaryan. He stored these items in his home and, after receiving instructions from the organizers, handed them over to the author of the terrorist attack, Kurbnov,” the Investigative Committee announced.
They noted that Kurbnov, “under the supervision of his associates,” assembled the explosive device, packed it with shrapnel, and secured it to an electric scooter placed near the entrance of Kirilov’s residence.
“After waiting for Kirilov to exit, Kurbnov remotely detonated the improvised explosive device under the control of the crime organizers and then attempted to flee to a previously secured safe house provided by Tochiyev and Padiyev,” the Investigative Committee added.
Kurbnov will serve his sentence in a special regime colony, while Safaryan, Tochiyev, and Padiyev will be incarcerated in a high-security prison.
