Khandaian on the Decision to Hold the Supreme Spiritual Council Meeting Abroad
The head of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Foreign Relations, Sargis Khandaian, addressed the decision to hold the Supreme Spiritual Council meeting in Austria. The deputy described this move as a form of self-isolation from the state and its interests.
During a press briefing, Khandaian stated that those who made this decision should answer why they moved such an important meeting of an entity carrying the name of Armenia outside the country.
“It is very puzzling that a religious organization or institution, named the Armenian Apostolic Church, organizes one of its main meetings outside of the Republic of Armenia. This also serves as evidence and an argument for the claim that these individuals, who make such decisions, are distancing themselves from the Republic of Armenia,” said Khandaian.
According to the deputy, such decisions indicate that the aim of the church's leadership is not to promote Armenia's independence and sovereignty, but rather to serve other interests among other purposes.
