US Criticizes Iran for Ongoing Internet Restrictions

The United States has stated that Iranian authorities prefer "silence and isolation" over addressing real domestic issues. This was mentioned in a statement released by the US State Department on its Persian page on X social media platform.

The statement points out that the continued restrictions on the internet demonstrate the Iranian government's low confidence in its own legitimacy. The State Department reminded that a representative of the Islamic Republic had previously announced the extension of internet shutdowns until at least the end of March.

According to the US, Iranian society is currently experiencing more than 216 hours of digital isolation. Iranian Tasnim news agency has claimed that the internet blockade conforms to "international practices," without specifying which criteria are referred to. Fars news agency reported that personal messages and group chats will only be available through national messaging applications.
