For 150 Years We Have Been Trying to Buy Greenland: Trump Warns U.S. is at Risk
U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that the United States has been negotiating with Denmark for more than 150 years regarding the acquisition of Greenland. "The United States has been trying to make this deal for over 150 years," the American leader wrote on his Truth social media platform.
"No one would dare to invade this sacred land, especially when the national security of the United States and the world is at stake," emphasized the President.
On Wednesday, the Danish armed forces announced that they will strengthen their military presence in Greenland in close cooperation with NATO allies and will activate training activities on the island. Sweden, Norway, Finland, France, the United Kingdom, Germany, and Slovenia have already announced that they will send troops to the Danish autonomous territory as part of the "Arctic Fortress" operation.
Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. However, Trump has repeatedly stated that the island should become part of the United States. Danish and Greenlandic authorities have warned Washington against the island's acquisition, noting that they expect their territorial integrity to be respected.
