Some Teachers Earn More Than MPs: Alen Simonyan
Officials of the Republic of Armenia have received and continue to receive insufficient salaries, which may not evoke empathy, because officials have been perceived as wealthy oligarchs for 20-30 years, alongside their official duties. If you want an airplane to go from point A to point B, your pilot must be professional, well-paid, and a decent person. This was stated by the President of the National Assembly, Alen Simonyan, during a press briefing while responding to questions about bonuses.
“Those who want every citizen of the Republic of Armenia to live well must have people who will achieve this. And those who are supposed to implement this cannot be unprofessional; they cannot come here and become part of corruption simply because they are not satisfied with the salary they receive,” he noted.
Addressing the comparison of salaries, Alen Simonyan added that many employees earn more than the President and MPs: “There is poverty in the Republic of Armenia, and we are fighting against it, but there are teachers and military personnel who earn more than members of the National Assembly. The heads of bank councils earn more than the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister, and the Speaker of the National Assembly. Do you want the rest to be impoverished if a segment is poor?”
