Significant Developments Expected in March 1 Criminal Proceedings

According to reports from the ‘Zhoghovurd’ daily, significant developments are anticipated in the criminal proceedings related to the events of March 1, 2008, at the Anti-Corruption Committee. It is said that the pre-trial body is preparing for additional processes beyond sending the cases of former officials to court.

Recently, the investigation against Sashik Afeyan, who served as the deputy chief of the Police of Armenia and is accused in the March 1 criminal case, has been completed. The materials of the case have been sent to court with an indictment conclusion.

In the criminal proceedings, S. Afeyan is accused of organizing actions to disperse peaceful protesters who were staging a sit-in at Freedom Square in Yerevan on March 1, 2008, using violence and special means by various police units. These actions led to substantial damage to the rights and legal interests of individuals, as well as to the legitimate interests of society and the state.

However, further developments are expected. The scrutiny of the March 1 case seems to be receiving more active attention compared to the investigation of war crimes and cases of victims.
