Trump Imposes 25% Tariff on Countries Doing Business with Iran

U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 25% tariff on countries conducting business with Iran. He made the announcement on the Truth Social platform.

“Effective immediately, any country engaging in business with the Islamic Republic of Iran will face a 25% tariff on all transactions with the United States,” said the American leader in his statement.

Bloomberg clarifies that Iran’s main trading partners include India, Turkey, and China. Trump has already imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods due to the purchase of Russian oil.

According to the agency, the additional 25% tariff on Chinese goods could violate the trade truce Trump agreed upon with Xi Jinping by the end of 2025.

Bloomberg also notes that the situation threatens the legality of Trump's global tariffs before an impending ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court. If the judges rule against him, it could hinder his ability to swiftly impose tariffs on Iran's partners. The next court session, where a verdict will be delivered, is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14.
