Former Deputy Police Chief's Case in March 1 Incident Sent to Court

The criminal proceedings against Sasha Afyan, who served as the Deputy Chief of the Police of the Republic of Armenia and is a defendant in the case concerning the March 1 incident, have concluded. The investigative materials have been sent to the court with an indictment, as reported by the Anti-Corruption Committee.

The criminal proceedings established that on March 1, 2008, Afyan organized actions to disperse peaceful protesters who were staging a sit-in at Freedom Square in Yerevan. These actions involved the use of violence and special measures by various units of the police, subsequently preventing any potential demonstrations and gatherings in the central areas of the city, resulting in significant harm to the legal interests of society and the state.
