Former Prime Minister of Georgia Sentenced to Imprisonment

The Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has reached a procedural agreement with former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili. As part of the agreement, the court has sentenced him to five years of imprisonment for a crime stipulated in Article 194, Part 3 of the Georgian Criminal Code.

In addition to imprisonment, the court has imposed an additional penalty of one million lari on Garibashvili. It has also been decided to seize for the benefit of the state the money that, according to the prosecution, was acquired through criminal means and discovered during a search of his residence.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, Irakli Garibashvili has accepted the charges against him and agreed to the terms of the procedural agreement. The Prosecutor's motion has already been granted by the court.

It should be noted that the court had previously seized his passport and imposed a ban on leaving the country.
