Government Has Intervened Where Necessary, Says Pashinyan

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced at a government meeting that the 2025 budget has been exceeded. According to him, all possible restrictions on economic activity have been removed since 2018.

“We have eliminated monopolies, prohibitions, and obstacles, and this is the main reason that since 2018, despite all political, regional, and geopolitical upheavals, Armenia has not only maintained macroeconomic stability but has also ensured a GDP growth of more than 2.4 times per capita,” the Prime Minister stated, noting that all this occurred in the context of the global COVID crisis and, of course, the Armenian recession.

The Prime Minister also emphasized that not only is the political system in Armenia democratic, but so too is the economic system. “I would like to highlight that this practically means that the government has not intervened where it should not intervene, and on the other hand, has intervened where it should have,” he stated.

He pointed out that both the cases of non-intervention and intervention are widely known: “We can bring the example of the ZPMC case and the HEC example as the most notable examples of intervention. And I want to emphasize again that the government has not intervened to the extent that not intervening would simply be inaction and irresponsibility,” Pashinyan concluded.
