9035 Vehicles Checked During Heightened Surveillance: Ministry of Internal Affairs Statement
Vehicles removed from blockades, assistance provided to citizens, and intoxicated drivers apprehended: The Ministry of Internal Affairs summarizes the results of its intensified surveillance.
As previously stated, agencies under the Ministry of Internal Affairs conducted heightened services across the country during the holiday period. Rescuers and police ensured public order and the safety of road participants, removed vehicles from blockades, and provided necessary assistance to citizens.
The Rescue Service operated on a 24/7 basis to assist citizens, conducting patrols on the country’s roads and establishing duty posts. Rescuers removed 428 vehicles from blockades due to heavy snowfall and provided assistance to 845 citizens. During the period from January 1 to 7, police officers inspected 9035 vehicles, of which 261 had summer tires, and 298 did not meet the required standards for winter tires. Administrative action was taken against all drivers of these vehicles.
During the holiday period, 417 intoxicated drivers were also identified, and their vehicles were moved to secure areas. At the same time, 810 traffic accidents occurred, with 310 in Yerevan and 500 in the regions. Administrative violation reports were filed for 52 vehicles involved in these incidents, with 37 identified as having summer tires and 16 with non-compliant winter tires.
This data indicates that, in response to regular notifications from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and enforcement by the Patrol Service, drivers primarily demonstrated responsible behavior by replacing their tires within the designated timeframe.
The Rescue Service and Police also collaborated with local self-governance bodies, providing information to partners regarding the presence of black ice and the necessity of cleaning efforts.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs urges the public to adhere to traffic rules and to drive vehicles equipped exclusively with winter tires.
