Turkey Denies Reports of Offering Asylum to Maduro
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has denied reports that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro was offered the chance to resign and move to Turkey. This information was reported by the TRT Haber television channel.
Earlier, The New York Times stated that U.S. authorities had suggested on December 23 that Maduro leave the country and go to Turkey, but the Venezuelan president had declined the offer.
“We have not received such information; nothing of the sort has happened,” Erdoğan said.
It is worth recalling that on January 13, it became known that the U.S. conducted an airstrike on the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, and American military personnel had abducted the country's leader, Nicolás Rodríguez, and his wife.
