Lukashenko on Belarus's Enemies

Lukashenko on Belarus's Enemies

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has declared that the republic currently has no enemies. However, he emphasized the importance of recognizing potential adversaries in a timely manner.

He made these remarks in the context of the Orthodox Christmas celebration during a visit to one of the churches in the Minsk region. Lukashenko noted that the modern world is extremely complex and intertwined, making it vital to have spiritual guidance. In his view, an icon can help find the right path in this "dark and uncertain" world.

During the visit, Lukashenko gifted a replica of the Mother of God "Minsk" icon to the church. According to historical records, the Mother of God "Minsk" icon was discovered in 1500 in the waters of the Swisloch River, which flows through Minsk. Since then, it has remained in the city. The icon has survived under the repressive Soviet authorities as well as during the Great Patriotic War. Since 1945, it has been housed in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit.
