Switzerland Freezes All Assets of Maduro
The Federal Council of Switzerland (the government) has frozen all assets of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and members of his inner circle. This was announced in a statement from the government.
“On January 5, 2026, the Federal Council decided to immediately freeze all assets of Nicolás Maduro and other members of his inner circle located in Switzerland,” the statement reads.
According to the announcement, these measures aim to prevent the illegal transfer of assets outside the confederation's borders. It is noted that the freeze will affect the assets of individuals who have not yet been subjected to sanctions in Switzerland and will not impact the assets of current members of the Venezuelan government. The Federal Council stated that this freeze is a supplement to similar restrictions that have been in place against Venezuela since 2018.
