Events Surrounding Venezuela Are Extremely Dangerous, Says Spain's Foreign Minister

Spain's Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares has stated that the events unfolding around Venezuela create an extremely dangerous precedent, emphasizing that Madrid will not tolerate the imposition of the "law of the jungle."

"This creates an extremely dangerous precedent for the future. We do not intend to tolerate the supremacy of the law of the jungle," he said in an interview with Cadena SER radio.

According to the minister, the incident is an action that is "clearly contrary to international law," and he reiterated that peace and democracy are only possible with respect for the sovereignty of states. The head of Spanish diplomacy also announced that Madrid, along with the governments of Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Uruguay, has initiated a joint statement condemning US intervention.

However, he admitted that he had hoped for a tougher stance from the European Union. Albares also noted that the use of force in international conflicts has often led to severe consequences. He pointed out that experiences from the last few decades, including events in Iraq, show that military interventions do not promote the establishment of democracy; on the contrary, they lead to chaos and instability both within countries and in neighboring regions.
