Afghan Leader Under Foreign Intelligence Agencies' Control: UN
The Supreme Leader of Afghanistan, Haibatullah Akhundzada, is under the constant and close scrutiny of foreign intelligence agencies and is increasingly isolating himself. This was stated by Nasir Ahmad Andisha, Afghanistan's Permanent Representative to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.
As reported by the Afghanistan International news portal, Andisha mentioned that Akhundzada opposes the frequent visits to Kabul by Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for peace in Afghanistan, but is practically unable to prevent them.
"Drones in the sky and Khalilzad on the ground are keeping Haibatullah Akhundzada under control," Andisha said, adding that the Afghan leader now "lives in Kandahar like a ghost and does not trust the people around him."
