Temporary Ceasefire Announced Near Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant
A temporary ceasefire has been initiated near the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP), announced Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the IAEA.
“Critical repair work has started on power transmission lines near the ZNPP following yet another localized ceasefire agreement facilitated by the IAEA. Grossi expressed gratitude to both parties for agreeing to this new ‘period of silence’ that will enhance nuclear safety by restoring electricity transmission between ZNPP’s distribution equipment and the Zaporizhzhia Thermal Power Plant,” the agency stated in a post on its social media pages.
Earlier, the plant’s director, Yuri Chernichuk, told RIA Novosti that Ukraine regularly threatens ZNPP staff with violence. He added that over time, the personnel has begun to respond calmly despite the continuous psychological pressure from Kyiv.
Moscow has repeatedly stated that the real threat to the ZNPP and its staff comes from the reckless actions of the Ukrainian armed forces, which almost daily attack the plant’s infrastructure and the city of Enerhodar.
