Former Senator Accused of Fraud in Russia Arrested in Italy

The former senator of Udmurtia, Viktor Khoroshevtsy, who is accused of fraud in Russia, has been arrested in Italy based on an international warrant issued by Russia. However, according to Corriere della Sera, the Milan court rejected his request and released him.

According to the newspaper, Khoroshevtsy was arrested in a hotel while visiting his daughter. Reports indicate that he resides in Spain and holds a residence permit there, and he is also believed to possess Israeli citizenship. The Madrid Ministry of Justice has reportedly already denied the extradition request.

In Russia, Viktor Khoroshevtsy is accused of six instances of large-scale fraud. According to the case materials, the state corporation 'Agency for Insurance of Deposits' is the injured party. In May, the Tverskoy District Court in Moscow issued a decision for his arrest in absentia, and a federal and international wanted notice was announced against the former senator.

Khoroshevtsy served as a member of the Federation Council representing Udmurtia from 2003 to 2009.
