The Risk of Nuclear Conflict Has Not Been Completely Eliminated: Sergey Ryabkov
The risk of nuclear conflict has not been completely eliminated. Russia is sending signals to the United States that it is ready to engage in "real negotiations." This was stated by Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov.
"There is a risk of such a conflict, and it has not been completely eliminated," emphasized the Deputy Foreign Minister. "We are sending signals through all channels that we should finally conduct real negotiations."
Ryabkov noted that communications with the U.S. have intensified, stating, "There is a practical, meaningful discussion ongoing, but greater efforts are needed to move beyond this threshold.”
"A lot depends on how the Trump administration will behave in the near future," he stressed. "We would like them to show maximum responsibility in their relations with us. We urge them to do so."
The senior diplomat pointed out that there is no apparent progress in restoring direct flights with the U.S. or in the return of diplomatic property. "They do not agree to restore flights, and there has been no progress in this area so far," Ryabkov announced. "They say, let’s first reach an agreement on the Ukraine issue, and then we will return to this matter. Regarding property, they say that as long as the issue is unresolved, we are discussing it. Thus, they are avoiding an answer, but we will continue to insist on this issue."
