Increasingly Urgent to Demand Compensation from the West, Medvedev States
Dmitry Medvedev, the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia, has pointed out that given the direct support provided by Washington and London for Ukrainian nationalist diversionary activities during the Soviet era, the issue of potential compensation claims for the damages inflicted on the Soviet economy by these countries arises.
In his article titled “How Anglo-Saxons Promoted Ukrainian Nationalism After World War II,” published in the magazine 'Rodina,' Medvedev proposed discussing the assessment of the damages suffered by the USSR in the fight against Ukrainian nationalists in Western Ukraine during the 1940s and 1950s. He emphasized that Russia should be the recipient of any compensation.
He also noted that during the Cold War, the West actively employed any means to weaken Russia, and that support for nationalist and radical movements in Soviet republics, including the promotion of Ukrainian nationalism by the US and the UK, was part of a global strategy against the USSR.
“Considering the direct support for the diversionary and terrorist activities of Ukrainian nationalists provided by Washington and London, the appropriateness of demanding compensation from them for the damages inflicted on the former Soviet national economy is becoming increasingly urgent,” Medvedev wrote.
