Disagreements in the White House Over Ukraine
Serious disagreements between U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff regarding negotiations on Ukraine could significantly influence the future development of the conflict. This was reported by NBC News, citing its sources.
According to the outlet, the two senior officials have markedly different approaches to negotiating with both Moscow and Kyiv, as well as varying levels of trust regarding Russia. Their views also differ on what steps could lead to an end to the war in Ukraine.
As per NBC News, Steve Witkoff has proposed suggestions aimed at achieving a quick peace agreement, which would require Ukraine to make concessions, including territorial ones, as well as accept security-related risks. Meanwhile, Marco Rubio, according to reporters, advocates for strengthening economic and military pressure on Russia to compel President Vladimir Putin to make compromises.
Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Alexander Vershbow commented on the situation, stating, "It seems they are singing different tunes. If there is no shared understanding of the issues and the adversary in the negotiations, no good outcome can be expected."
