Deployment of the ‘Oreshnik’ Missile System in Belarus is a Response to the West, Ministry of Defense

The deployment of the Russian ‘Oreshnik’ missile system in Belarus is a response to aggressive actions taken by the West against Minsk. This was stated by the head of Belarus's Ministry of Defense, Viktor Khrenin, in an interview with Chinese CGTN television.

“We want the Western countries to understand that if, simply put, they interfere with us, they will face unacceptable damage,” said the minister.

Khrenin also noted that the supply of the ‘Oreshnik’ missile system to Belarus will not change the balance of power in Europe, as these weapons are intended for strategic deterrence.

On December 22, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that no more than ten ‘Oreshnik’ missile systems would be deployed in the republic.
