Ceasefire Established Between Kurds and Government Forces in Aleppo

A ceasefire agreement has been reached between government forces and the "Syrian Democratic Forces" (SDF) led by Kurds following clashes in Aleppo on December 22. According to reports from Armenia’s news agency Armpress, Syria TV has confirmed this information.

The governor of Aleppo, Azzam Gharib, has declared December 23 a non-working day for all public and private schools and universities, as well as for governmental offices located in the center of Aleppo, due to SDF attacks on peaceful residents in the city’s neighborhoods, which resulted in the deaths of two individuals (a mother and child), with another 15 civilians wounded.

In a statement on social media, the governor clarified that this decision does not apply to organizations that provide medical aid and emergency-related services to citizens. Internal security forces have stated that they have reinforced their presence in affected neighborhoods to protect civilians and keep them away from areas of shelling.

The Syrian Civil Defense agency has reported that fires have broken out in the al-Jamilia and Sheikh Taha neighborhoods due to shelling and gunfire from the SDF.

Sources informed Syria TV that the United States has exerted significant pressure on both the SDF and the Syrian government to immediately cease hostilities in Aleppo. The Syrian Army’s General Staff issued an order on the evening of December 22 to stop targeting the sources of fire from the SDF after neutralizing several of them.

The SDF, for its part, has announced that it has instructed its forces to cease fire in the context of negotiations for a ceasefire.
