Casualties and Injuries Reported Amid Clashes Between Thailand and Cambodia

The Cambodian Ministry of Defense has accused Thailand of "brutal and unlawful actions," stating that since December 8, nine civilians have been killed and another 20 severely injured.

Thai officials have reported that three soldiers have died during the fighting, with 29 people injured.

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet asserted that Thailand "should not use military force against civilian villages under the pretext of restoring its sovereignty." Since the clashes resumed on December 8, both sides have blamed each other for the hostilities.

Former Cambodian leader Hun Sen mentioned that his country waited 24 hours to ensure a ceasefire before launching counter-offensives against Thai forces at night.

In Thailand, military officials have indicated that clashes are occurring in five border provinces, and operations by naval forces to displace Cambodian troops in Trat province will soon conclude. They noted that Cambodia is utilizing artillery, rocket sites, and drone strikes against Thai forces.

The renewed fighting is the most serious since the five-day conflict in July involving missiles and heavy artillery, which resulted in 48 fatalities.

Tension between the two sides has continued to rise following an incident on November 10, when a Thai soldier was injured by a mine explosion.

During the 47th ASEAN Summit in Malaysia in October, Cambodian and Thai Prime Ministers Hun Manet and Anutin Charnvirakul signed a joint declaration in the presence of U.S. President Donald Trump, outlining subsequent steps for the peaceful resolution of border conflicts. Both parties emphasized their commitment to "support the de-escalation of tensions, rebuild trust, and foster mutually beneficial relations."
