Obstacles to Peace in Ukraine: The Wall Street Journal
Russia and Ukraine do not agree on several fundamental issues, which hinders the possibility of conflict resolution, reports the American publication The Wall Street Journal.
The publication presents five main contradictions existing between Moscow and Kyiv. The first relates to territorial issues. The next point, according to the publication, is Ukraine's ambition to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).
"The root causes of the conflict have not changed - Ukraine's aspirations towards the West and NATO's expansion," the article states.
Additionally, unresolved issues remain concerning the number of Ukrainian armed forces, the status of the Russian language in Ukraine, and control over the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.
Furthermore, the U.S. administration previously announced the development of a Ukrainian settlement plan. The Kremlin has stated that Russia remains open to negotiations and is committed to the discussions in Ankara.
