Georgia and Azerbaijan Discuss Construction of New Border Crossing
Representatives from the Ministry of Finance of Georgia and the Azerbaijani Ambassador in Tbilisi have discussed the construction of a new joint border crossing named "Silk Road - İpek Yolu." According to Georgian media, citing a press release from the Georgian Revenue Service, the working meeting included Irakli Beria, head of the Revenue Service, and Azerbaijani Ambassador Faig Guliyev.
The parties emphasized the importance of the new crossing as a prerequisite for developing the region's transit potential. During the meeting, issues related to the simplification of customs procedures were discussed, as well as enhancement of cooperation in the fight against the illegal drug trade. Representatives from Georgia's customs and international agencies, as well as the Azerbaijani embassy, also participated in the discussions.
It has been noted that in recent weeks, Azerbaijani media have published critical messages concerning bilateral relations, in the context of which the discussion of infrastructure projects is viewed as a step towards strengthening cooperation and transit ties between Baku and Tbilisi.
