Armenian Sports Today is in Survival Mode: Nazaryan
The Secretary General of the Basketball Federation, Arthur Nazaryan, wrote on Facebook:
“Sports federations and clubs, except for 1-2 cases, are not focused on development but are merely surviving. The primary concern of an organization in such a state is not a 5 or 10-year strategy, but rather how to endure for another week, another month. In these conditions, strategies remain on paper. Plans for 5-10 years become mere aspirations, wish lists, because a system in survival mode cannot form long-term goals. All potential is spent on somehow solving today’s problems. There are simply no resources left for development. The domain of sports in Armenia has not yet matured. It does not have a well-established, strong community. And when the sector lacks a community, its issues find themselves at the very end of the state agenda. Other sectors have more organized communities, a louder voice, and can partly protect their interests and receive benefits. Sports still lacks that voice. If we want development, we must first honestly acknowledge the reality: development cannot emerge from a survival mode,” Arthur Nazaryan wrote.
