Yerevan is the Most Vulnerable, Baku Has the Most Favorable Natural Conditions for Air Self-Cleansing, Says Azizyan
Levon Azizyan, the director of the Hydro-Meteorological Center, wrote on his Facebook page: "The air quality and physical-geographical factors of Yerevan, Tbilisi, and Baku significantly affect the urban air quality, not only due to anthropogenic factors but also physical-geographical conditions: relief, ventilation, prevailing winds, and the influence of the sea or valley.
From the perspective of physical-geographical factors among the three capitals of the South Caucasus:
- Baku: has the best natural air circulation due to the direct influence of the Caspian Sea.
- Constant strong winds (khazri, gilavar).
- Open and flat relief.
Tbilisi: has average conditions.
Yerevan: faces a high risk of air pollution accumulation.
Conclusion: From a physical-geographical perspective, Yerevan is the most vulnerable, Tbilisi is medium, while Baku has the most favorable natural conditions for air self-cleansing."
