Trump Signs Record Defense Budget
US President Donald Trump has signed the National Defense Authorization Act for the fiscal year 2026, which allocates historically the largest military spending. According to Reuters, the bill is considered "massive" and sets annual military funding at approximately $901 billion.
As part of the law, there are also provisions for funding to Ukraine through a weapons procurement program. This involves the "Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative," which will provide $400 million to Ukraine in 2026. Washington intends to allocate the same level of support for 2027 as well.
Furthermore, the passage of the law results in the lifting of certain sanctions imposed on Syria.
The legislation includes a range of priorities related to the modernization of the US Armed Forces, the development of the defense industry, and the funding of international security programs.
