Oscar Ceremony Will No Longer Be Broadcast on Television

The Oscar ceremony will no longer be broadcast on television and will instead be streamed on YouTube starting in 2029. This announcement was made by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on its website.

According to a press release, “The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and YouTube have entered into a multi-year agreement that gives YouTube exclusive global rights to broadcast the Oscar ceremony starting in 2029, when the 101st ceremony will take place, and continuing through 2033.”

The event, including red carpet coverage, behind-the-scenes filming, and more, will be available for free live streaming on YouTube for over two billion viewers worldwide, as well as subscribers of YouTube TV in the United States.

The Academy noted that the platform will help make the Oscars accessible to a growing global audience through features such as subtitles and multilingual audio.
