Civilian-Clothed Law Enforcement at Mother Cathedral: Police Chief's Commentary
I am confident that those accompanying the bishops were staff members, but I cannot say which service they belonged to at this moment, as I did not see them. This was stated by Aram Ghazaryan, Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Chief of Police, during a conversation with journalists in the courtyard of the Mother Cathedral, responding to journalists’ observations that the bishops pledging allegiance to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan were accompanied by individuals not in uniform who pushed people, including journalists.
“Security was provided for entry into the area, and naturally, they entered without obstruction. I cannot assess it right now. Of course, I have heard a number of complaints from journalists regarding this matter. We will understand and respond appropriately,” he said.
When asked if he did not know who those individuals in civilian clothes were, the police chief replied, “I answered your question; there’s no need to repeat the question from different angles.”
Regarding the question of whether representatives from other law enforcement agencies were present in addition to the police, Aram Ghazaryan stated, “I cannot disclose that to you, as naturally, there are units involved in service during any event, working together with the police.”
