US Calls on EU to Abandon Plan for Using Russian Assets, According to Politico

The US authorities are trying to persuade European Union countries to reject an initiative that proposes using frozen Russian assets for financing Ukraine. This was reported by Politico, citing several high-ranking EU officials.

According to the outlet, White House representatives are pressuring European governments not to support the proposal to use about 210 billion euros of Russian assets. One source noted that the chances of reaching an agreement with Belgium have not improved but have rather deteriorated, as the country continues to oppose the initiative.

A Politico source also reported that the atmosphere during the EU foreign ministers' meeting was extremely tense.
