«Don't Wake the Sleeping Bear»: Zakharova Comments on Lukashenko's Statement
Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, commented on the statement made by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, who advised Kyiv not to 'wake the sleeping bear' and to strive for normalization of relations. According to Zakharova, the first question that arises in such a situation concerns the reasons for finding oneself in that state.
Zakharova pointed out that if anyone considers themselves to be beside a 'sleeping bear,' they should first clarify how and under what circumstances they ended up there. She emphasized that this question is crucial for a comprehensive understanding of the situation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson also addressed the relations between Russia and Western Europe, highlighting that there were all necessary conditions for cooperation. However, according to her, the Western side has rejected those opportunities and chosen the path of confrontation.
She added that the current developments, in her view, are the result of previously made political decisions that have not contributed to the deepening of dialogue and interaction between Russia and European countries.
