The Most Unexpected Progress in Armenian-Azerbaijani Relations

Finland's President Alexander Stubb has described the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan as one of the most unexpected advancements recorded in 2025. According to him, such developments seemed extremely unlikely at the beginning of the year.

“If someone had told me at the beginning of the year that we would have a ceasefire in Gaza, or that there would be a ceasefire or a possible peace agreement regarding Ukraine, or that there would be peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, I would have replied that it was very unlikely. But now, two of these three things have become a reality, and I hope that by Christmas we will also have the third,” said the Finnish president.

Stubb's statement came amid a backdrop of international developments, with discussions ongoing about ceasefires and political resolutions surrounding various conflicts.
