Nazaryan's Call for Those Displaced from Artsakh: They Should Accept Armenian Citizenship
We need to set a goal and ensure that every family from Artsakh, who currently or prior to their forced displacement do not have housing in Yerevan or other cities in Armenia, are provided with accommodation. This was stated by MP Gegham Nazaryan during his speech in the National Assembly.
“Moreover, we should not create an illusion that we helped them, but provide real assistance so that no Artsakh resident remains homeless,” said the MP.
Nazaryan urged compatriots displaced from Artsakh not to refuse to accept Armenian citizenship, despite various reasons and propaganda influences. “Of course, it is each person's own decision, but to fully integrate into Armenian life, it is necessary to accept Armenian citizenship, if they wish to stay, live, and create,” he emphasized.
According to Nazaryan, the Armenian government must do everything possible to resolve the housing issue as quickly as possible. “Moreover, I once said and I will ask again that we find a way for those who want to live in rural areas to be provided with much more resources,” the MP concluded.
It is worth noting that the draft law regarding the ratification of the loan agreement between the Government of Armenia and the Asian Development Bank for the program "Housing Reforms for Improved Resilience and Empowerment" (THRIVE) is being discussed at the extraordinary session of the National Assembly. The agreement aims at the socio-economic integration and welfare of families displaced from Artsakh. Within the framework of the program, a loan of $250 million will be provided to Armenia by the Asian Development Bank.
