Death Sentences in the U.S. Double
In 2025, the number of executions in the United States has sharply increased, nearly doubling from the previous year's figures. According to a report by the non-profit Death Penalty Information Center, there were 25 executions in the U.S. in 2024, while the number reached 48 in 2025. The organization specializes in collecting and publicizing data on the death penalty, providing information to the media and the public.
The study indicates that approximately 40 percent of executions are concentrated in Florida. Since the beginning of the year, 19 executions have either been carried out or are scheduled to take place in that state. The remaining cases have been recorded across 11 other states in the U.S.
