70 Women and 10 Minors Detained at Abovyan Prison
Currently, there are 70 women and 10 minors detained at the Abovyan penitentiary. This was announced today, December 16, during a press briefing by the head of the Abovyan penitentiary, Colonel Heghine Martirosyan.
According to her, the youngest among the minors is only 15 years old and is in custody without a sentence yet. “Mainly, minors find themselves involved in cases of stabbings and thefts, while women are charged with various offenses. The crimes committed by women are mostly of a social nature, including theft, fraud, and lighter offenses. There are cases of murder, but they are not numerous. Recently, there has also been an increase in cases related to drugs,” she noted.
Heghine Martirosyan emphasized that the detainees are currently in the rehabilitation center of the penitentiary, where educational processes are carried out and various events are organized. She mentioned that performances are regularly organized, including those involving invited participants from outside.
“Recently, inmates from the Armavir penitentiary performed for our women, which received a very positive response. We have already requested to organize a similar event again,” said the penitentiary head.
She also informed that a New Year’s event is planned for minors and mothers with children. “At the moment, we have two mothers with children under three years old. A festive event will definitely be organized for them, possibly with the participation of guests from outside,” added Heghine Martirosyan.
