TRIPP Provides Strong Guarantees for Armenia, Says U.S. Ambassador
Turkey is a key element in the vision of TRIPP, the initiative of former U.S. President Donald Trump. This was stated by Christina Quinn, the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia, in an interview with CivilNet.
According to her, the project could become truly influential if it utilizes the railway segment that passes through Nakhchivan, reaching Turkey's Kars province specifically through Shirak Province in Armenia. The ambassador noted that Turkey has a fairly developed railway network, which adds additional importance to the project.
Quinn revealed that the U.S. is directly working with Turkey on this matter, emphasizing that Armenia is also in active communication with Turkey, trying to take the necessary steps to realize the vision.
She stated that creating a secure and safe route from north to south and east to west, which would pass through Nakhchivan and Armenia to Gyumri and Kars, would open a new transit route. According to the ambassador, this route would help connect the east and west, benefitting almost all involved countries, but Armenia could gain the most advantage, as its eastern and western borders have been closed for over 30 years.
Presenting the U.S. vision for TRIPP, Quinn noted that it is a route that ultimately connects Central Asia to Western Europe. In her view, the Caucasus has long been an obstacle to the realization of this project for various geopolitical reasons.
The ambassador also stressed that the development process of TRIPP envisions cooperation with the United States in a joint venture format. She stated that Armenia will always have a seat at the negotiating table to ensure the full preservation of its territorial integrity, sovereignty, and jurisdiction. Quinn emphasized that TRIPP provides Armenia with strong guarantees that former concerns will not materialize.
