The Louvre Closed on Monday Due to Employees' Indefinite Strike

The Louvre Museum in Paris was closed on Monday due to an indefinite strike declared by employees of the cultural institution, as reported by Agence France-Presse. BFMTV indicated on December 10 that the museum would likely shut its doors to visitors on Monday because of the employees' strike.

Earlier, three French trade unions, including the leading General Confederation of Labour (CGT), called for Louvre staff to commence an indefinite strike starting December 15. They expressed dissatisfaction with deteriorating working conditions and a lack of resources.

“The museum’s opening is currently postponed. We will provide details regarding potential reopening at the earliest opportunity,” quoted AFP from a statement posted by museum staff near the Louvre entrance at 9:00 AM local time.

According to the publication, around 400 people are currently participating in the strike.

In November, the Louvre encountered a series of incidents due to the inadequate condition of internal structures and water supply lines. In the middle of the month, the museum announced the closure of one of its halls due to the fragility of the inter-floor ceilings. Additionally, at the end of November, the Louvre's library was flooded with wastewater due to leakage from old pipes, resulting in damage to 300 to 400 documents.
