Farmanian Criticizes Babayan's Statement Regarding Whipping Mkhitaryan

It is very unfortunate that an intellectual in Armenian reality allows himself to make such a ridiculous expression,” said attorney Marine Farmanian during a conversation with journalists after today’s court session regarding Mkhitarian. She was responding to Ruben Babayan's recent statement, which suggested not to detain but rather to “whip those speaking nonsense.”

“In other words, according to this intellectual’s opinion, we are supposed to retreat from our legal framework and move into the realm of repressive actions,” she stated, adding, “How many whips should we use for his actions and at what frequency?”

It should be recalled that theater director Ruben Babayan, during a conversation with Petros Ghazaryan on “First Channel,” when speaking about Mkhitaryan, declared, “To give two years for nonsensical talking is severe. I suggest imposing sanctions from Iran—whipping,” he said.

Earlier, we reported that today’s court session regarding Mkhitaryan’s case was postponed. He is scheduled to undergo surgery tomorrow.
