No matter how absurd their propagandists' rhetoric sounds, borders do not change in the 21st century, Yeghoyan
In response to the well-known video message shared by Narek Karapetyan near the Kapan airport, many have once again recalled the law on the administrative division of Armenia and accused Narek’s father, Karen Karapetyan, of why it was fixed during his tenure that the Kapan community borders that section with the Republic of Azerbaijan. This was noted on Facebook by Arman Yeghoyan, a member of the Civil Contract party.
“I must say that I categorically disagree with this accusation. The location of the Armenia-Azerbaijan interstate border was not determined by Karen Karapetyan, nor by Serzh Sargsyan, nor by Robert Kocharian, nor by Nikol Pashinyan. Armenia and Azerbaijan inherited their borders from the Soviet Union, and there they were determined through the internal procedures of that state. Even if Karen Karapetyan were not the Chief of Staff of Serzh Sargsyan, but rather the Chief of Staff for a nuclear power's president, he still would not be able to determine or change the borders of any state.
Moreover, in the 21st century, even individuals much wealthier and more influential than Samvel and Karen Karapetyan cannot change any state boundary,” wrote Yeghoyan.
He stated in his post, “In 2010, the Republican majority in the National Assembly simply recorded the plain fact that near the Kapan airport, on the other bank of the Voghji River, lies the Republic of Azerbaijan; otherwise, it couldn't have recorded anything different. Of course, it could have recorded nothing at all, but the Armenia-Azerbaijan border would not have changed. Just as no negotiator can change the borders through negotiation. So, dear friends, no matter how absurd their propagandists' rhetoric sounds, I suggest countering it not with propaganda, but with simple logic. Thus, in the 21st century, borders do NOT change. And if one day the world suddenly steps back from this principle, it will not be due to the negotiating talents of Narek, Samvel, and Karen Karapetyan, but rather due to a collective decision from great powers.”
“Well, if Narek wants to use the flags of our neighboring states during the electoral campaign, he can do so from Yeraskh, where he can picture the flags of Azerbaijan, Turkey, and Iran from one point and wonder how it came to be that way,” wrote Yeghoyan.
It should be noted that Narek Karapetyan, the coordinator of the “Our Way” movement, had posted a video stating, “We are on the Kapan-Yerevan road, here is the flag of Azerbaijan.” He added, “Nikol Pashinyan has negotiated.”
