EU Rejects Ukraine's Membership Bid

The European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, has stated that Ukraine's membership in the European Union cannot occur on the basis of a peace agreement, as it must meet the conditions for joining the alliance, reports RIA Novosti.

Kallas emphasized that EU membership should be based solely on merits. “We have discussed this with Ukraine, Moldova, and all candidate countries. There are no concessions, including for Ukraine,” Kallas said.

At the same time, Kallas believes that the efforts put forth by the United States regarding Ukraine's EU membership may encourage the EU to commence significant negotiations.
