Situation at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant Remains Unstable: Grossi

The security situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) continues to remain unstable. This was stated by Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), in an interview with RIA Novosti.

"It is very unstable and sensitive," Grossi noted while commenting on the situation regarding nuclear safety and security at the plant. He highlighted that a positive development was the successful achievement of a ceasefire, which has allowed for urgently needed repairs to the Dniprovska and Ferrospavanaya power transmission lines.

"This was important," emphasized the head of the IAEA.

The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant is located on the left bank of the Dnipro River, near the city of Enerhodar. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of reactors and installed capacity; the plant has six power units, each with a capacity of one gigawatt.

In October 2022, the ZNPP became the property of the Russian Federation. IAEA experts have been working at the plant continuously since September 1, 2022, following Rafael Grossi's first visit.
