When should we come, Nikol Vovaevich? The Armenian NPP is our pride, says Rosatom head

Alexey Likhachev, the head of the state corporation Rosatom, has stated that the Armenian nuclear power plant is one of the most successful nuclear projects from the Soviet era and continues to operate efficiently to this day.

Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and heads of official delegations, who participated in the international conference on cooperation in science and technology, today familiarized themselves with the exhibits of the 'Atom' Museum at VDNH in Moscow.

Specifically, Likhachev recalled the history of the Armenian NPP based on the VVER-440 seismic-resistant reactor type, which was saved from the 1988 Spitak earthquake and subsequently shut down. However, the second power unit was later restored and re-commissioned.

“It is simply our pride. It is the best nuclear project of the Soviet Union that still operates today,” Likhachev remarked.

He added that the operational period of the existing power unit has been extended until 2026. The Armenian government has decided to initiate the process of extending the operation of the Armenian NPP until 2036.

“Practically every quarter, I bother Nikol Vovaevich (Prime Minister Pashinyan) and say, 'When should we come? We are ready to solve everything,'” Likhachev added.
