US Army Secretary Removed from Russia-Ukraine Conflict Resolution Process
The US Army Secretary, Dan Driscoll, has been removed from the Russia-Ukraine conflict resolution process at the request of Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, reports The Telegraph citing sources. The Pentagon chief believes Driscoll has overstepped his authority, according to the sources. The paper describes Hegseth's approach as 'paranoid.'
In November, Driscoll was tasked with presenting a 28-point peace plan from the U.S. to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and securing his support. He became the highest-ranking official from the Donald Trump administration to visit Ukraine. However, the meeting was unsuccessful, as Zelensky rejected the plan, which included an agreement to cede the Donbas region to Russia, according to the newspaper.
European ambassadors involved in the negotiations have described the Army Secretary as an official who is little interested in compromises for Kyiv.
