Samvel Karapetyan Wanted by Azerbaijani Authorities, Says Lawyer

Lawyer Aram Vardevanyan stated during a press conference held by Samvel Karapetyan's legal team that if one believes that there will be no consequences from all of this, that opinion is incorrect. The greatest pain in all of this is that the consequences are falling upon Armenia. Specific individuals are taking specific actions, and the impact is collective.

"It is clear why it was necessary to detain Samvel Karapetyan at any cost and to keep him in custody. One of the issues, yes, is hidden in the fact that there is a direct political decision against our identity, against our Mother See. National benefactor Samvel Karapetyan is indeed an obstacle to such behavior," he emphasized.

The lawyer added that Karapetyan's statement about participating in the defense of the church in our way has led to 177 days of detention in Armenia, and according to him, the judges confirming this detention, the investigators submitting such petitions, and the prosecutors defending them are citizens of Armenia.

"Samvel Karapetyan is wanted by the competent authorities of Azerbaijan. Samvel Karapetyan has been in prison for 177 days in Armenia," Vardevanyan stressed. The lawyer asserted that the other side of the issue also pertains to the Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA), and it is evident that all of this started simultaneously.
