Cambodia Should Be the First to Go for De-escalation: Thai Prime Minister
Cambodia should be the first to pursue the de-escalation of the border conflict with Thailand. This was stated by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, as reported by RIA Novosti.
“We have never wanted what belongs to Cambodia. Cambodia must be the first to cease all actions. The situation must be rectified by the party that violated the agreement, not by the party that has been attacked,” he told reporters.
According to him, a ceasefire should not be declared; rather, Cambodia should stop firing and withdraw its troops.
The escalation of military operations in the border areas between Thailand and Cambodia began over the past weekend. Both sides have accused each other of violating the ceasefire, with the Royal Thai Air Force conducting airstrikes.
Earlier, Cambodian media had reported that fierce fighting continues along the Thai-Cambodian border.
