Azerbaijan and Armenia Representatives Conduct Inspections in Sotk: Exclusive Report

Days ago, Azerbaijan and Armenia representatives carried out boundary demarcation work at the Sotk mine in the Gegharkunik region. This was reported by the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd'.

The newspaper addressed Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan's office to clarify what processes are ongoing.

"We have information that boundary demarcation has begun at the closed Sotk mine in the Vardenis community of the Gegharkunik region. What is the situation there? Are demarcation works currently being conducted?" said the deputy.

According to Grigoryan, "Joint inspections have been conducted by representatives of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan in the boundary area of the Sotk mine. According to our information, Azerbaijani and Armenian military personnel have been in the mine area for several days. Are these reports accurate? If yes, what maps and documents are being used for this demarcation?"

Grigoryan remarked, "No, the information does not correspond to reality. To carry out demarcation, a referendum is necessary; if a referendum has not been conducted, how can such actions take place? The work related to boundary demarcation is regulated by Armenian legislation and the regulations approved by the National Assembly regarding the joint activities of the commission on boundary demarcation and security between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan."
