Samvel Karapetyan's Legal Team Issues Statement

On November 18, 2025, the Anti-Corruption Court granted an unfounded request from the investigative team, extending the detention of businessman Samvel Karapetyan by two months. This decision was preceded by a publication in the "Haykakan Zhamanak" newspaper with similar content. Samvel Karapetyan's legal team has issued a statement regarding this matter.

“The appeal court, presided over by Judge Zh. Meliksetyan, has decided to reject the appeals filed by the legal team and the prosecutor’s office. All of this is beyond any legal domain and unequivocally undermines the criminal proceedings from the courts of Armenia. The basis for extending Samvel Karapetyan's detention was cited by the First Instance Court solely as a risk of obstruction, and the Appeal Court has effectively agreed with this, directly ignoring three indisputable factual data: 1) the lack of minimum substantiation for the charges, 2) approximately 6 months of detention, 3) the possibility of alternative measures of restraint. This all proves that in the case of Samvel Karapetyan, the law is not functioning in any way in the courts, legal arguments are not evaluated, and justice is not being served.
