Salary Must Be Over 200,000 Drams to Be Included in Insurance, Says Avanesyan
During a press briefing by the government, Armenia's Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan stated that the preliminary draft of the "Universal Health Insurance" law considers the possibility of treating the cumulative salary of citizens working in multiple jobs as a threshold for insurance coverage. She addressed concerns about whether individuals working multiple jobs, with a cumulative salary of 200,000 drams or more, would benefit from the system.
“Essentially, this year we will not be able to implement such coverage programmatically, and at least one employer must pay a salary of over 200,000 drams for an individual to be included in the insurance starting in 2026. However, beginning in 2027, all salary recipients will essentially be included,” the minister informed.
It is noteworthy that the draft law on "Universal Health Insurance" has been accepted in its first reading, which will be implemented in stages over three years. It will cover all citizens of Armenia, but it will not address the healthcare needs of all citizens and individuals; rather, it aims to mitigate the burden of major morbidity and mortality conditions, ensuring better health outcomes.
